President of the Association, Andrew Severn once made the mistake of telling an interview committee
that he enjoyed anaesthesia for hip fractures. Having been
enthusiastically appointed, he compounded his error by writing a review
for the BJA on anaesthesia for Parkinson's disease. He was thus noticed
by AAA at an early stage, and becoming Secretary in 1998. He organised the
2002 and 2007 annual meetings, and has overseen the growth in membership
over the last 7 years. He succeeded Gwyn Seymour as President in 2008.
He is a consultant anaesthetist with University Hospitals of Morecambe
Bay and although spending nearly all of his time managing chronic pain,
still does a few trauma lists.
Past President of the Association, Gwyn Seymour is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at Aberdeen University.
Secretary of the Association, Dave Murray is a Consultant Anaesthetist at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. Clinical commitments include colorectal and ophthalmic anaesthesia, with over 50% of caseload being elderly patients. Other interests are education, having obtained a Masters in Clinical Education, and also decision-making in anaesthesia.
Treasurer of the Association, Guy Turner , is a Consultant Anaesthetist in Chichester. He has been associated with the AAA since it’s early years.
